The most important thing when using a professional floor oil is to make sure that the wood surface is sealant free, dry and clean. Because you are using a natural looking floor oil, any imperfection and any patch will be visible under the sealer. Always prepare more oil than needed. Chimiver Lios Bioil Natural 1L | How To Use

A natural floor oil will penetrate the wood fiber and it will waterproof it. To be able to penetrate the fiber of the wood, the wood surface has to be 100% sealant free, dry and clean. Applying floor oils is not hard but a step by step routine has to be followed.

1. Always buy a bit more oil than the recommended coverage area.
2. Vacuum the floor thoroughly, shake the tin of oil well and prepare a few cloths.
3. Soak the cloth into the oil and apply it to the fiber of the wood.
4. Rub it in up and down the fiber of the wood until all the oil is absorbed.
5. About 30 minutes later go over one more time with a clean microfiber cloth. You want to remove any extra oil or excess oil that was not absorbed by the floor. Allow it to dry for 12 hours.
6. The second coat should be applied the same way as the first coat. Do not use the surface for 12 hours after the last application.
7. The above recommendations are for DIY users or small projects. The professional contractors would use floor buffers and a totally different application system.

Oiling a floor properly is a time consuming operation and should not be done in a hurry. Respect the drying times and only apply the second coat after the first coat has dried in full.
